Ovation Instruments was formed when, in the early sixties Charlie Kaman saw a need to diversify his aviation company into other markets. As a longtime guitarist he understood the needs of players, and his extensive helicopter blade experience gave him a better understanding of vibration than any other guitar maker. So, in 1964 he chose a small team of aerospace engineers and technicians for the project. They discovered that the flat back of the acoustic guitar actually hindered the balance and projection. Consequently, they developed the roundback, which improved projection, gave the guitar a better balance from bass through treble, and made for a stronger and more rugged instrument.
Two years and many prototypes later, they brought the first production Ovation to life – the Balladeer. Kaman Music Corp went on to own Ovation Guitars, LP and Toca hand percussion products, Gibralter Hardware, Genz Benz Amplification and Hamer Guitars.
Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) is the world’s foremost manufacturer of guitars, basses, amplifiers and related equipment, with an illustrious history dating back to 1946. Since its founding, FMIC has grown to be one of the world's leading marketers, manufacturers, and distributors of musical instruments. It makes and distributes everything guitarists and bassists need, from instruments, amplifiers, strings and accessories to professional audio products.
Fender became one of the world leaders by defining the sounds we hear, by meeting the needs of musicians, by creating quality products and by backing them up with service and stability. As FMIC forges into the 21st century, its management strives to maintain Fender’s status through a combination of business acumen and love for music.
In 2007 FMIC purchased Kaman Music Corporation. Subsequently, Ovation Instruments of New Hartford, Connecticut contacted Managed Air Systems regarding their requirements for a new finishing system. An MAS sales and engineering team worked with Ovation to put together a cost-effective solution for their needs.
MAS installed a stand-alone, enclosed spray booth, suitable for two sprayers, with an emphasis on cleanliness. The new booth is located on the second floor of a six-story building, with the air-make-up unit located outside at ground level, and an exhaust stack that extends eighteen feet above the roof line.
